Revamp Students Loan Trust Fund Instead of a New Loan Scheme, Dean of T.T.U to President

The dean of students for Takoradi Technical University, Mr Owusu- Ansah Ankrah has said that it will be more laudable to revamp the existing Students Loan Trust fund instead of government considering a different loan Scheme for the students.

This follows president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo’s recent comment on Wontomi TV with regards to government’s proposal to support needy students in Tertiary institutions with a Revolving Fund or loan facility by way of making university education more accessible. This is as an option in the mean time since the country is   economically constrained to start a free tertiary education now though it is a possibility in the future.

Mr Owusu- Ansah called for the improvement of the Students Loan Trust Fund in an exclusive interview on Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwame Offei.

“So far no student has come to me complaining of not being able to access the student loan, the student representative council (SRC) and EKMA also has a similar facility for students and the physically challenged, I personally think the student loan Trust Fund as a facility already exist, therefore it should rather be enhanced instead of setting up a new loan scheme for student”

He urged students not to always wait for examination time before they come to him for personal assistant but instead, they should be timely in the application of loan.

“Sometimes I don’t understand these  students, this package is there for students but I don’t understand why some students would have to wait to a point where they will come to me for assistant, this trend is very worrying therefore I will urge all students to apply for the student loan earlier enough . Even during my school days I went for a student loan and I paid for it after I completed, therefore it is notting wrong with it”

The head of COVID-19 task force, Dr Amefa Apaw Amponsah also supported the dean of student’s position for government to revamping students Loan Trust Fund as the best of options instead of a different loan facility from government to support needy student.

She believe a that the there can be a special package for a well define category of needy student to broaden the target of the scheme.

“We have one already so we should enhance it to reach more students but if we want a special package for special need within it is a good call but for an entirely different loan Scheme is not the right way to go but broaden the base to support more student is the way to go”
